A little way down the hall hung Michael Brigante Sr.’s portrait. Growing up, Louise and her father were very close. So when it came time to sit for the portraits, she insisted her father take part. In his portrait, Brigante’s formal attire, a black suit and tie, gave the unmistakable impression that he was the patriarch of the family and not Big Ronnie. After the portraits were hung, Big Ronnie could not escape the constant reminder that his family’s prosperity was due to his father‑in‑law’s generosity.
